My Revised Course Evalation Form
I filled out three course evaluation forms in class this week, and none of them asked the questions I really wanted to answer. People complain that the evaluations don't really tell them anything about a class - sure, there are some professors at both ends of the spectrum that the evaluations identify (take any and all professors named Warren; don't take Church and State), but the vast majority of classes fall somewhere in the middle of the pack (much like our grades?), which, on the one-to-five scale, is way too close to five, and not close enough to one (again, much like our grades).

Letter to the Editor: Lambda salutes Dean Kagan
HLS Lambda applauds Dean Kagan and HLS for immediately resuming full enforcement of the school's nondiscrimination policy in the wake of the Third Circuit's holding that the Solomon Amendment likely violates the First Amendment. The school's actions help to return Harvard to its appropriate position as a national leader on civil rights and represent a reaffirmation of our community's commitment to equal opportunity and nondiscrimination for all students.

Record Editorial: BSA and students should have a say in reforms
The Committee on the First Year Lawyering Program, covered in this issue, represents a good idea gone wrong. The FYL program certainly has its share of problems, and reforms that remedy those problems certainly would be welcome. But the recent action by the Committee in practically forcing a student member to resign raises signals that any reforms implemented will be top-down reforms rather than student initiated.

News Briefs: Law school faculty set to expand
The Crimson reports that Dean Elena Kagan is aiming to hire at least fifteen faculty members at HLS over the next decade. Acknowledging that a number of professors are set to retire over the next couple of years, Kagan stated that she hopes to "do a fair bit of entry-level hiring this year.

Letter to the Editor: HLS should lose federal funding
Ever since they began complying with the Solomon Amendment in the fall of 2002, HLS has been looking for the first chance to go back to its longstanding practice of keeping military recruiters off campus. They found their chance with the Third Circuit's ruling (that the Solomon Amendment is unconstitutional), the first decision by a federal circuit ruling on the Amendment's constitutionality.

The Republicans’ big tent
First, my apologies to the campus Republicans. Even after cleaning Liberals' clocks (a fact which I readily admit, unlike some of my friends who still complain about voting irregularities in Ohio), they're still so threatened whenever anyone turns a critical eye toward their glaring lies and gaping hypocrisy.

My 3L paper is going fine
The Harvard Law School Catalog is a bit vague about a lot of things ("By accepting membership in the University, an individual joins a community ideally characterized by free expression, free inquiry, intellectual honesty, respect for the dignity of others, and openness to constructive change;" "Harvard University promotes the health and well being of its students and employees through its Health Services and other agencies;" and "Students should strive to take a range of courses in order to create a balanced program," just as examples), but about at least one it is very specific: "Third-year students must register for the Written Work Requirement by October 15, 2004.

Rushing the court(house)
Much has been written about the despicable brawl that occurred two weeks ago during the Pistons-Pacers NBA game. Some have blamed the players for going into the stands; others have accused the Detroit fans of causing the fight by throwing both insults and objects.

Thanks
As I sat on Thanksgiving afternoon, contentedly rubbing the ever expanding squishiness around my middle I affectionately term my "food baby," I slowly stopped feeling badly for the Detroit Lions (hell, I was not the one having problems inside the red zone).

The modern scarlet “A”
Last Wednesday after-noon I spent two hours on the phone trying to find out where I could get an abortion in Western Massachusetts. I'm not pregnant, nor have I ever been, nor do I know anyone currently dealing with an unplanned pregnancy. Rather, as part of a larger research project, I was calling hospitals to see how they handle a pregnant woman's request for information about abortion.
