GUEST OPINION: Gay marriage is not a civil rights issue
CONTRARY TO POPULAR misconception, gay marriage is not a civil rights issue. The traditional connotation associated with civil rights is that of Black America's continuing fight for equality. Gay marriage proponents have relied upon this historical understanding and made a habit of likening the gay marriage movement to the struggle for racial equality.

One student’s response to ‘A Response to Glendon’
IN ANSWERING PROFESSOR Glendon's recent Wall Street Journal editorial asking why homosexual relationships should receive the benefits of marriage when other worthy relationships don't, 167 Harvard students approvingly insisted that "intimate associations ... receive significantly more constitutional protection than other associations suggested by Glendon." Other than the fact that this doesn't answer Glendon's question, it also conflates intimate relationships with sexual relationships in the same manner the Goodridge and Lawrence courts have done.

The Mr. Sparkle Agenda
There's a part of me that wants to acknowledge up front that this review undoubtedly violates most principles of critical distance - after all, aside from being friends, section-mates, and the home band of 2/3 of my Parody band compatriots, Mr. Sparkle is Harvard Law School's resident musical collective of note, and, as such, for me to review them is incestuous at best (after all, I am thanked in the liner notes) - hell, it's just a step away from reviewing my own album (which, truth be told, I'd probably pan).

A response to Glendon’s editorial
Professor Mary Ann Glendon's editorial of February 25th ("For Better or For Worse?: The federal marriage amendment would strike a blow for freedom," Wall Street Journal, February 25, 2004) is commendable for its reasoned tone in a debate that has been characterized by epithets and indignation. But the presence of an ergo, a Q.E.D., or a tenured professorship should not lull anyone into the belief that the premises from which she reasons are any more logical or just than the fire-and-brimstone admonitions of picketers at the statehouse gates.

RECORD EDITORIAL: Yes, the focus should be on women
THE LETTER TO THE editor this week by the Working Group on Student Experiences that researched and wrote the "Study on Women's Experiences at Harvard Law School" is right that the Study's insight about class participation is important to understanding why so few students dominate so much class time, and why so many students do not voluntarily participate in class at all. But the letter is distressing in that it seeks to downplay, at least to some extent, the focus of the Study on the experiences of women at the Law School.

Dewey Ballantine partner sends mass e-mail containing racial slur
In its second offense to the Asian American community, a January 26th e-mail sent from a partner at Dewey Ballantine's London office contained an Asian American slur. The e-mail was in response to an offer for a free puppy for adoption, and Douglas Getter, a London-based American in charge of Dewey Ballantine's European mergers and acquisitions practice, sent out a mass e-mail that said, "Please don't let these puppies go to a Chinese restaurant!"
