Cries of ‘racism’ misguided
The left has been mining the vein of accusations of racism to great effect. Recently, in the Pickering confirmation debacle, leftist groups conspired with members of the Senate Judiciary Committee to brand Judge Pickering a racist. Never mind that the only people in Mississippi who opposed Judge Pickering's nomination were the Ku Klux Klan and the NAACP.

Responding to Palestinian terrorism
As any reader of the entire article [below] will quickly see, my proposal is designed to save both Israeli and Palestinian lives. It suggests that Israel start by declaring a moratorium on reprisals, even in the face of continuing terrorism, which is now supported by 87 percent of the Palestinian population.

Trends troubling for free speech
Recently, two events have surfaced in the news that should be deeply troubling to all of us. First, former drug czar and current conservative commentator William Bennett announced that, with the support of some of his hard-line neo-conservative benefactors, he would be creating the "Americans for Victory Over Terrorism" (AVOT), an organization whose goal is to "sustain and strengthen American public opinion as the war on terrorism moves forward.

The politics of rhetorical analogy
The world today is ruled by a hegemonic and paranoid superpower, and this is scary. From New York to Bogotá or Ramallah the simplistic idea of "war against terror" has had, so far, devastating consequences (with deep apologies to "poor Afghani women" who may be better off now, or so we are told.

Don’t mince words
I was extremely upset to read last week's article by the "Justice for Palestine" [JFP] organization labeling Palestinian gunners, snipers and suicide bombers who specifically target Jewish women and children as "so-called terrorists." In the wake of the terrorist atrocity on September 11th, there is no room for mincing words with regards to these kinds of heinous crimes.

Student input for Allston
The members of the Locational Options Committee agree with the RECORD that students can provide valuable input regarding the Allston question. (See "To Allston? Involve the Students"). We will hold at least one general meeting for students after spring break (and more if the level of interest is sufficiently high) to provide information about our work so far and to elicit comments and questions.

The truth about Middle East: Why we need to speak out
Over the last 50 years, the press and Arab world has been fixated on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as if this was the only problem in the Middle East. Today, when we hear the words "trouble in the Middle East," we automatically think of Israel. Indeed, the Jewish state is blamed for causing instability in the Middle East, of being behind the September 11th World Trade Center attack and of hindering U.

U.S. coddled terrorists
The record shows that while terrorists destroyed the businesses, livelihoods and lives of innocent Americans during the 1950s through the 1980s, the Federal government assuaged them with civil rights legislation and other measures to reduce discrimination in housing, employment, education and other amenities enjoyed by non-minority Americans.

Clouding the waters
As a Christian, I am appealing to Justice for Palestine to please refrain from accusing faculty of "crucify[ing]" pretenses during the Passover/Easter season in future statements. Not only does this defamatory language smack of blatant anti-Semitism, but it is disturbingly irreverent of an event that is sacred to Christians all over the world.

Bush’s proposed tariffs on steel will darken America
I went to school in the sunny resort town of Provo, Utah. All right, so maybe it isn't a resort town, or that sunny. In fact, for those who know Provo, they know that the reason it isn't sunny, for several months during the year, is a mixture of the inversion layer and Geneva Steel.

Alum’s Allston concerns
I read with great interest about the possibility of Harvard Law School moving to a new campus and the appointment of a Law School committee to be included in these considerations. Let me express some of my own concerns as a basis for brief discussion. First, I believe there should be a full exploration in regard to utilization of space on the existing law school campus.
