VINO & VERITAS: Doing your patriotic duty
A few weeks ago, John McCain said that France is, "reminding me of an aging movie actress from the 1940s who's still trying to dine out on her looks, but doesn't have the face for it." JOSH SOLOMON says it's time for patriotic drinkers to focus on a new ally: "our dear friend Italy."

Eating on the firm
ALEX SUNDSTROM notes that for a hungry 1L, firm receptions can be a great opportunity to help others spend money. "Access to free-flowing, expensive liquor and upscale hors d'oeuvres seems worth enduring forced conversation with Stepford associates for a couple of hours, but not selling one's soul to join them."

Education done the “right” way
Liberals say the problem with education is that there isn't enough money. This is pure nonsense and intellectual laziness to boot, KATIE BIBER writes. No conservative likes to see a school struggling with substandard books and underpaid teachers. There is no cadre of Republican activists looking to slash the budgets of public schools until classrooms are forced to rely on charity.

Unique wrongs
The Holocaust is overused, ALEX GORDON writes. If you believe that a war in Iraq would be a horrific wrong against humanity, or that raising animals for slaughter is similarly reprehensible, then by all means make your opinions known. However, it is inappropriate to use a past atrocity to make the case that some current or future event is or will be itself equally bad. Drawing comparisons tot he Holocaust trivializes the actual event.

Student group urges support for Iraq war
With the likelihood of a war with Iraq increasing, and with the Bush administration drawing a line in the sand dividing those who oppose war and those who favor using force to topple Hussein's regime, a group of Harvard Law students have weighed in on the matter by launching a new organization to build support for the disarmament of Iraq and the war against terrorism.
