Employing the same optimism that permeated her schoolwide address last year, Dean Elena Kagan characterized the law school as "exceptionally strong" in her State of the Law School Address to a full Ames Courtroom on September 23rd. "The state of the school is exceptionally strong," began Kagan.

I write to applaud the Dean for the courageous and moral stand she articulated with regard to the presence of military recruiters on campus in her message to the HLS community. Although I, like many others, have at times felt that she and the rest of the Administration did not go far enough in defending the law school's non-discrimination policy, it is nevertheless important to express appreciation for what she has done.

Another rule known by most is "chairs are for sitting and not for throwing." But during a September 13th game between the Oakland A's and the Texas Rangers, Texas pitcher Frank Francisco forgot about the "no chair throwing" rule.

For those who have never taken a clinical, the Office of Clinical Programs (OCP) requires each student to keep a journal to, "reflect on your clinical experience and how you feel about the work you are doing." Apparently, OCP feels that, "experience without reflection does not lead to learning or growth.

Janitress with Windex, how I envision her reflection, unopened, confronting glass, not yielding to the slanting sunrise that I surmise could have blinded a non-morning person. When my laptop case bangs the glass door shut, her Spanish falls silent. The woman who once gazed at my face through the rags-on-glass door becomes a vanishing trace that depletes into a daily lecture replete with solitary terms like "unjust enrichment" or "promise.
